Staff Q and A: Respiratory therapist, Stephanie Thies

Posted on: January 27th, 2011 by sdavis

Meet the CarePro Home Medical respiratory team. Before getting her degree in respiratory therapy, Stephanie Thies learned a lot about her specialty from her mom. When she’s not educating her patients on sleep apnea, she loves spending time with her dogs.

Where did you go to school?

Stephanie is a respiratory therapist at CarePro Home Medical.

I am a registered respiratory therapist. I went to Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids and graduated in 2008 with my associates degree.

What made you want to become a respiratory therapist?

I worked as a CNA on a pulmonary unit before I went to college.   My mom is also a respiratory therapist, and I learned a lot from her.

What’s one of the most rewarding things about your job?

Talking to the patient and making sure they really understand what’s going on.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Spending time outside, relaxing, reading, and playing with my dogs.

If you won a million dollars, how would you spend it?

Take a long vacation traveling around the world.  I also have a great love for dogs and would want to help homeless dogs by offering a foster home or even a shelter.
